# Drop Body, Not Hands

When the pitch is lower, adjust with the legs — not by dumping the hands — and stay strong through contact.

Drill concept from **Baseballologist**. The Dugout summarizes it below; watch the original for the full demonstration.

## What it's for

A hitter who gets to lower pitches by dropping or dragging his hands. The barrel sinks under the ball, and pitches he should drive turn into pop-ups.

The fix is a change in *what* adjusts. Let the body get down to the pitch, and let the hands ride along with it instead of dumping on their own.

## How to use it

1. **Dry swings at a low target.** Bend the legs to bring the body down to pitch height. The hands stay strong and connected.
2. **Low tee.** Same feel with a ball. Contact quality matters more than volume.
3. **Front toss, low in the zone.** Now the hitter has to see it and adjust.
4. **Mix heights.** Alternate low and middle pitches so the body learns to do the adjusting.

## What to watch for

- The legs doing the work while the hands stay connected
- Fewer pop-ups on low pitches, more line drives
- Head and posture staying steady as the body lowers
- Stiffness — the goal is a lower body, not a frozen upper body

## The Dugout take

This is a feel, not a swing rule. Use it for the hitter who is clearly dragging the hands and getting underneath. If the swing is already on time and adjustable, leave it alone — and run through the full diagnosis in the Guide before changing anything.
